The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is maintaining a full week schedule of work to ensure timely preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections set on Nov. 2 this year.

“We have a fixed schedule to follow for the upcoming polls, and any reduction in working days could disrupt our preparations – from voter registration to the finalization of election materials,” Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Thursday, March 12.

Still, Ananoria said they are complying with the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for government agencies to reduce energy consumption amid the increases in petroleum product prices and broader concerns over rising operational costs.

At present, the Comelec provincial office is focused on conducting satellite registration drives in strategic locations, including public schools and barangay halls.

These mobile registration centers aim to make the registration process more accessible for residents, especially those in remote areas.

Ananoria said the turnout for the registration drives has been positive.

“So far so good – many voters have been coming in to reactivate their status or register for the first time, as awareness has grown about deactivated names on the voter’s list,” he said.

Through the information campaigns, the Comelec ensures eligible voters are aware of their registration status ahead of the deadline.

“While we are committed to doing our part in conserving energy and reducing costs, our top priority remains ensuring that the Barangay and SK Elections are conducted smoothly, fairly, and on schedule,” Ananoria said.

The Comelec is urging eligible voters who have not yet registered or need to update their information to visit the nearest registration center or check the agency’s official website for satellite drive schedules in their area. | GB
