In-person classes at all levels, both public and private schools, are suspended until Dec. 20 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, still due to the Mount Kanlaon eruption, but students are expected to return to school on Jan. 2.
“This new directive revises (Mayor Rex Jalando-on’s) earlier announcement, which only applied to select schools and extended the suspension through Jan. 3, 2025,” the city Public Information Office said Dec. 15.
All academic activities will transition to remote learning, using online platforms and modular learning materials, it added and urged students “to remain indoors and minimize exposure to outdoor areas to ensure their safety from volcanic ash and other hazards.”
In Bago, the city Schools Division, said select schools will transition to modular and online instruction effective today, Dec. 16, also in line with the volcanic eruption.
These include the RS Abindan Elementary School in Barangay Ilijan, Mailum ES in Barangay Mailum, the Louisiana ES, Maao ES, and Ramon Torres Louisiana National High School, all in Barangay Ma-ao, as well as Najaba ES in Barangay Bacong, the Bago PIO said Dec. 14.
“(These) schools were ordered to refrain from holding any Christmas parties or gatherings, both inside and outside the school premises,” the city said, considering their proximity to the volcano that is now on Alert Level 3, or high level of unrest.
The DepEd Bago said all learners should remain at home and avoid unnecessary exposure outdoors. | CGC
