Individuals registered to vote for the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in three provinces of Negros Island Region have reached 104,132, as of Aug. 9, data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed.
Negros Occidental logged the highest number of registrants at 62,490 while Negros Oriental listed 37,982 and Siquijor, 3,660.
Of the registrants, a total of 53,992 are females and 50,210 are males.
The poll body conducted the 10-day nationwide voter registration from Aug. 1 to 10.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier described the voter registration for the 2025 BSKE as “the most successful voter registration in history. The most in number in the shortest period.”
However, a near rampage marred the voter registration at a shopping mall in Bacolod City on Aug. 9, after the security group of the mall was unable to control the crowd who rushed to get first to the queue.
A female registrant lost consciousness because of the long wait she had to endure. This prompted the Comelec Bacolod to request for police assistance to maintain order.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, who personally monitored the lines Saturday evening, ordered the putting up of two portalets and iron railings in the area. | GB
