Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has expressed its full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiative to reduce electricity costs, calling the move a significant step toward providing relief to Filipino consumers by making power more affordable.

The company issued the statement following Marcos’ announcement during his fifth State of the Nation Address, where he directed efforts to lower electricity rates, including the removal or reduction of system loss charges.

In a statement, Negros Power said it will await the official implementing guidelines from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), particularly on the implementation of the directive to remove or zero out system loss charges.

Negros Power spokesperson Engr. Leomel Tambanillo said the company fully supports the President’s vision of reducing electricity costs while ensuring that the implementation of the policy remains consistent with existing laws and regulatory requirements.

“At Negros Power, we fully support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiative to reduce electricity costs for our consumers. Once the DOE and the ERC issue the implementing guidelines or the necessary regulations for the implementation of this policy, we are ready and committed to fully comply,” Tambanillo said.

He explained that although the President has already outlined the policy direction, distribution utilities will continue to operate under the current regulatory framework until the DOE and the ERC issue the necessary implementing rules and regulations.

He emphasized that Negros Power remains committed to complying with all government directives while maintaining reliable and efficient service to its consumers.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the national government, the DOE, and the ERC in carrying out the policy once the official guidelines are released.

It said it will promptly implement all directives in full compliance with applicable laws while continuing to provide affordable, reliable, and consumer-centered electric service. ||
