Member-consumers served by Negros Power will be paying P11.6971 per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed this billing month, or an increase of P0.5095/kWh from last month’s rate of P11.1876.

The increase was due to upward adjustments in the generation charge of power traded in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

“Ang isa ka balay nga may average consumption nga 200 kWh kada bulan ang madugangan sang 100 pesos sa iya budget sa kuryente,” Negros Power said in an advisory Jan. 20, adding the increase in average residential rate is reflected in the bills that consumers started receiving Jan. 16.

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative also earlier announced a P0.2673/kWh hike in its residential rate for this month.

This is due to higher ancillary rates from the reserve market, which the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines uses to balance and stabilize the grid during times of increased demand, Noceco explained as it urged its member-consumer-owners (MCOs) to remain mindful of their energy consumption to effectively manage their electricity bills. | CGC
