The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), together with the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will hold an electric power forum today, March 20, at a hotel in Bacolod City.
Frank Carbon, co-chair of the PCCI Energy and Power Committee, and vice president for Governmental Affairs, in his letter-invitation to the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod, said the “no fee forum” aims to gather electric power stakeholders and “work together to improve the reliability and sustainability of power supply in the Negros Island”.
Carbon said all the players in the electric power supply chain, like the generators, transmission company, distribution companies, and IEMOP or Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines, Department of Energy, and National Electrification Administration – the planning and policymaking agencies of the government – are expected to attend the forum.
“(They) will be with us to discuss their role in the supply chain and, more importantly, on how to ensure that our power supply is reliable and sustainable to lessen brownouts and prevent blackouts,” he added.
One highlight of the gathering is the panel discussion and open forum in the afternoon, when a resolution on the creation of a Negros Island power development coordinating council is eyed for crafting and presentation to participants.
Carbon said this resolution will be submitted to the Negros Occidental and Oriental provincial development councils for adoption. “The primordial function of the Council is to meet regularly and assess the power situation in the Island, and prepare recommendations to improve the power outlook”. | CGC
