Dengue cases in Negros Occidental further increased by 94 percent, with six deaths, as of Aug. 10, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) report showed.

From Jan. 1 to Aug. 10 this year, cases reached 1,777, compared to only 862 for the same period in 2023.

Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, met on Friday (Aug. 16) with the chiefs of provincial government-managed hospitals to discuss the response to the influx of dengue patients in government medical facilities.

Even private hospitals and rural health units are now operating in full capacity, Pinongan said.

Dengue fast lanes have been opened in all district hospitals to attend to dengue patients.

Pinongan said that they are planning to teach healthcare workers on how to treat dengue patients at their level to decongest patients in the hospitals.

The PHO report also indicated that children with ages one to 10 are the most affected. | GB
