A total of 12 dengue-related deaths were recorded in Negros Occidental, including the highly-urbanized Bacolod City, among the 4,384 cases from Jan. 1 to Aug. 2 this year.
In a report, the Provincial Health Office recorded eight deaths and 3,813 cases, higher by 62.46 percent compared to 2,347 cases for the same period last year.
In Bacolod, the City Health Office logged 671 cases, including four deaths, showing an increase of 35 percent compared to 497 cases and two deaths in 2024.
Bago City still has the highest number Ok, Kabankalan City – 352, San Carlos City – 196, Cauayan – 148, Isabela – 147, Silay City – 144, Hinigaran – 127, La Castellana – 104, and Pontevedra – 100.
In Bacolod City, Barangay Mansilingan logged the most number of dengue cases at 68.
Age group with the most number of cases is 11 to 20 years old.
The Department of Health (DOH) has recommended several preventive measures against dengue fever, emphasizing the 4-S strategy, which includes Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protect by using insect repellent, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
Additionally, the DOH encourages community participation in clean-up drives and emphasizes the importance of proper waste disposal to eliminate potential breeding grounds. | GB
