Negros Occ. logs 17 dengue deaths

The death toll from dengue in Negros Occidental has risen to 17 as reported cases further increased to 5,867 as of Nov. 12, data of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Nov. 12 this year increased by 336.21 percent, or 4,522 cases, compared to only 1,345 cases for the same period last year.

Bago City remains at the top of the list with the most dengue cases at 737, but with zero fatalities.

Others in the top 10 local government units in Negros Occidental, with the most dengue case are San Carlos City with 456 cases; Hinobaan, 413; Talisay City, 360; Sagay City, 357; Cauayan, 356; Silay City, 349; Kabankalan City, 348; Silay Cadiz City, 307; and Sipalay City, 284.

The age group with the most dengue cases is from 11 to 20 years old.

Dr. Ma Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, earlier said that the PHO continues to collaborate with the barangays, especially those with dengue-related deaths, in advocating for the cleaning of identified mosquito breeding grounds, among other measures. | GB
