Dr. George De La Cruz, a Senior High School teacher of Handumanan National High School in the DepEd Division of Bacolod City, is one of the 29 regional winners in the 2023 Search for Outstanding Government Workers, of the Civil Service Commission.

Out of the 47 nominees in Region 6, De La Cruz is one of the 29 winners endorsed by the Committee on Awards to the national Honor Awards Program (HAP) secretariat for further assessment to determine the national winners.

A recipient of national and international accolades, De La Cruz has been awarded “Advocate of the Month” by the Global Schools Program of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network for his active role as advocate and mentor for Education for Sustainable Development.

His advocacy works on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was part of the launching of “Practicing Education for Sustainable Development: Case Study Guide for Educators”, a guidebook showcasing the experiences of 31 Global Schools Advocates’ SDG-related lessons and projects that were incorporated in school curriculum and communities in different parts of the world.

The Dangal ng Bayan (DNB), or Outstanding Public Officials and Employees Award, is one of the three categories in the 2023 Search for Outstanding Government Workers – the other two are the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award and the CSC Pagasa Award.

The DNB is an accolade conferred on an individual for the performance of an extraordinary act or public service, and consistent demonstration of exemplary ethical behavior as outlined in Republic Act 6713, or the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees”, a press release said.

The conferment of the awards forms part of the CSC’s advocacy of promoting excellence, recognizing, and rewarding civil servants for outstanding performance, contribution, and achievements, and/or consistent manifestation of exemplary ethical behavior in public service, it added.

Meanwhile, the CSC, through the national HAP secretariat, said there are eight individual and six group semi-finalists vying for the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, a recognition conferred to an individual or group for their exceptional contributions that had a nationwide impact, while 14 civil servants have been selected as semi-finalists for the DNB Award.

The names of the semi-finalists are listed on the CSC website via www.csc.gov.ph. ||
