Majority of the mayors of Negros Occidental are in favor of shortening the curfew hours rather than lifting its implementation, after the province was placed under Alert Level 2 due to the decrease in COVID cases.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said this was the response that he had gathered from the town and city mayors to his question on whether to remove or shorten the curfew hours presently implemented from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Lacson said most of the mayors support the proposal of a 12 midnight to 4 a.m. curfew hours, adding that this is also one way to help prevent or deter crime incidents.
He said he will issue a new executive order on the matter anytime this week.
Meanwhile, Lacson said he is still waiting for the go signal from the Department of Health on booster shots for frontliners and persons with comorbidities.
He also challenged barangay officials to do better with regard to their vaccination rollout, and in convincing the residents to receive the vaccines.
Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, earlier said the province has sufficient supply of vaccines of different brands. — MML
