The restiveness of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island continues as it spewed ash twice on Jan. 3, which indicated a sign that magma is rising, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In a bulletin, Phivolcs said it recorded two ash emission events, which lasted to a maximum of one hour and four minutes.

Grayish plumes rose up to 300 meters above the crater and drifted southwest.

Phivolcs also logged three volcanic quakes.

Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano as entry to the four-kilometer permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited. | GB
