The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) logged two more ash emissions from the Mt. Kanlaon summit crater on Monday, Dec. 2, as Alert Level 2 prevails over the active volcano.
These events took place from 5:41 a.m. to 5:46 a.m. and 7:46 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., generating grayish plumes that rose 400 to 600 meters above the crater.
Phivolcs alerted residents in nearby areas of light ashfall.
Five volcanic earthquakes were also detected during monitoring, with sulfur dioxide emissions remaining high at 9,377 tons per day, showing that the volcano is releasing gases.
A 750-meter-high plume of volcanic gas and ash was observed drifting.
While there is no immediate threat of a major eruption, sudden steam-driven explosions could happen, Phivolcs said.
Authorities also encouraged residents to stay clear of the four-kilometer permanent danger zone in order to be safe from unexpected activity such as rock falls and ash emissions. | GB
