Mayor Alejandro Mirasol of Binalbagan yesterday announced that his wife, Mary Ann, will be his running mate in next year’s elections.
Mirasol said the incumbent Binalbagan vice mayor, Ursecio Inodeo, who replaced the late Vice Mayor Samuel Gavaran, will run for town councilor.
He also announced his support to the tandem of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, whose performance he rated as 9 to 10, from a scale of one to 10. He also endorsed the re-election of Rep. Ma. Lourdes Arroyo.
Mirasol said he chose his wife as his running mate since she is more than qualified for post.
Mary Ann Mirasol ran for the mayoralty seat of Binalbagan in 2016 but was defeated by former mayor Emmanuel Aranda. Three years later, Aranda lost his re-election bid to the incumbent mayor, Alejandor Mirasol.
Aranda, reportedly, is planning to stage a comeback and will contest the mayoralty seat. He and Mirasols are members of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA).
Aside from Mirasol, Malacon, San Carrlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo and Silay City Mayor Mark Golez have formally announced their support to the Lacson-Ferrer tandem.
Meanwhile, Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, whose term of office ends June 30 next year, aspires to represent the Abang Lingkod party-list in congress as its second nominee.
During a meeting of Asenso-Tumandok leaders in EB Magalona, Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez also confirmed his re-election bid for the 3rd district congressional post.
EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon expressed the support of Saraviahanons to the re-election of Rep. Benitez and to the Abang Lingkod partylist.
Malacon also assured his support for Board Members Andrew Montelibano and Manuel Frederick Ko. — GB
