Minor drowns in Kabankalan City

A minor drowned in a river in Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Easter Sunday (March 31).

Police said in a report that the 11-year-old girl, a Grade 5 pupil, was declared dead on arrival at the Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim was playing with her cousin in Bayhao River.

A day earlier, a minor also drowned at Linaw Bubong in Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City.

According to the police, the five-year-old victim and his two siblings went for a swim despite being told by their father to stay home.

Meanwhile, a barangay tanod was mauled to death in Sagay City, also on March 31.

The 32-year-old victim, whose identity is being withheld by the police, and his group were in a fiesta dance party at the covered court of Barangay Malubon.

A group of suspects mauled the victim and his companions.

The barangay tanod was declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital while his 21- year-old companion was already discharged from the same medical facility. | GB
