A unanimous resolution was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod this afternoon, Oct. 12, declaring tycoon Kevin Tan, chief executive officer of Alliance Global Inc., the parent company of Megaworld and other businesses, as adopted son of Bacolod.

The decision came following a letter-request from Mayor Alfredo Benitez, in recognition of Tan’s “invaluable efforts and contributions of bringing investments to the city of Bacolod that redound to numerous economic benefits.”

Councilor Jason Villarosa, who filed a similar proposed resolution Oct. 5, said that as president of Megaworld Real Estate Investment Trust (MREIT), “Tan has been instrumental in its investment in Bacolod, and the impact of the corporation’s investments to the advancement of the economic growth of the city cannot be understated”.

Megaworld has two townships in the highly-urbanized city – the 34-hectare The Upper East near the Bacolod Government Center, and the 50-hectare Northill Gateway in the boundary of Bacolod and Talisay City in Negros Occidental, with total investments of P45 billion in 10 years.

In 2020, the SP also approved a resolution declaring Tan’s father, Dr. Andrew Lim Tan, the adopted son of Bacolod for that year, in time for the BacoLaodiat Festival./CGC
