The series of anti-illegal drugs operations of the police on Aug. 18 led to the discovery of marijuana cultivation activities in Sagay City, and the arrest of five suspects, who yielded more than P44,000 worth of suspected shabu.
P/Lt. Col. Albert Sy yesterday said they discovered marijuana plants being cultivated in Purok Maghirupay, Barangay Taba-ao, Sagay City.
Sy, who is the Sagay City police chief, said they arrested Mark Gerald Maru, 19, while his father, Marcelino, managed to escape.
Recovered during the police operation, led by Sy, were four fully-grown marijuana plants, seven dried stems with roots, and dried marijuana leaves.
He said he believes that some marijuana plants had already been harvested.
Meanwhile, a buy-bust operation, also on Wednesday, in Sitio Paradise, Barangay Rizal, Silay City, led to the arrest of Sashley Canson and Adrian Lagio, both categorized by the police as street level individual drug personalities.
Their arrest yielded about six grams of suspected shabu, worth P30,000, marked money of P1,500, and P1,227 in cash believed to be proceeds in the sale of the prohibited drugs.
Another drug suspect, identified by the police as Cristopher Ryan Bello, was apprehended in a buy-bust operation in Purok Talong, Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City.
The arrest of Bello, alias Toto, tagged by the police as a newly-identified SLI drug personality, yielded about 2.5 grams of suspected shabu, worth P17,000, a cellular phone, P460 in cash, and P500 in marked money.
