A resident of Iloilo jumped to his death off a Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) vessel in the territorial waters of Brgy. 10 in Bacolod City Feb. 10, an official of the Philippine Coast Guard said.

Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio, newly-designated chief of the Philippine Coast Guard-Negros Occidental station, said that the victim he identified as Joel Calubia, 35, of San Dionesio, Iloilo, was declared dead by emergency responders of Bacolod City, after his body was retrieved and brought ashore by Coast Guard rescuers.

Mercurio said that Calubia had nervous breakdown, according to his relative identified as Rodrigo Dichoso, who was with him during the trip.

He added that the RoRo vessel was about one nautical mile from the shorelines of Bacolod City on its way to Iloilo, when Calubia jumped into the sea. — GB
