A magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolted southern Negros shortly before noon Nov. 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor struck at 11:58 a.m., with epicenter located 18 kilometers northwest of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental.
Phivolcs said the quake was strongly felt at Intensity V in Sipalay City and Cauayan City, Negros Occidental, and moderately strong at Intensity IV in Hinobaan.
Intensity III was also felt in Bago City, Negros Occidental, Bayawan City in Negros Oriental, and Iloilo City and Jordan town in Guimaras.
Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian said the earthquake was tectonic in origin.
Caelian stressed there is nothing to be alarmed about the tremor since it was only part of the normal movement of the Negros Trench which is located in Sipalay City and Hinobaan town. – GB
