Fantasy adventure film Magikland won six awards in the 46th Metro Manila Film Festival during the virtual Gabi ng Parangal on Sunday streamed live on Facebook.
Inspired by the theme park in Silay City, Negros Occidental, which has the same name, the movie bagged the trophies for Best Musical Score (Emerzon Texon), Best Visual Effects (Richard Francia and Ryan Grimarez/Central Digital Lab), Best Production Design (Ericson Navarro), Best Virtual Float, and FPJ Memorial Award.
The late director Peque Gallaga, one of the producers, was awarded the Special Jury Prize.
The film’s four main characters Boy Bakunawa (Miggs Cuaderno), Mara Marapara (Elijah Alejo), Pat Patag (Josh Eugenio) and Kit Kanlaon (Princess Rabara) represent the four elements influenced by Negros folklore.
Directed by Christian Acuña with Albee Benitez, Rey Bantug, Lore Reyes and Gallaga as producers, the film was produced under Brightlight Productions and Gallaga Reyes Films. – NWI
