The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a bulletin on Monday (Aug. 25) stating that Negros Island Region (NIR) is now affected by the low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon (Habagat), which are expected to bring heavy rains in the coming days.

NIR is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and highly urbanized Bacolod City.

Rainfall amounting to 50-100 mm due to the LPA is forecast to pour over in Negros Occidental, starting Tuesday (Aug. 26) noon to Aug. 28, according to the state weather bureau.

PAGASA also warned that localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, or near river.

While the LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said it will continue to enhance rains.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government ordered the suspension of classes in 14 provinces in Luzon and some parts of the Visayas. | GB
