In the Philippines, the law establishing National Bible Month and Day is Republic Act 11163 (2018), declaring the last Monday of January a special working holiday for National Bible Day.

At the same time, Proclamation No. 124 (2017) designates the entire month of January as National Bible Month, culminating in National Bible Week.

These were enacted to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of the Filipino people through the reading and study of the Bible.

As the year begins, we are reminded that the Bible is not only a book to be honored publicly, but a Word to be lived daily.

From the earliest days of the Church, the apostles taught the early Christians using the Scriptures to explain who Jesus is. Over centuries, the Bible was translated, preserved, and proclaimed so that God’s Word could guide every generation. .

National Bible Month continues this long tradition of calling people back to Scripture as the foundation of life and faith.

First, read the Bible as God’s Living Word.

The Bible is not merely a historical document or a moral handbook. Paul teaches that all Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness.

This means the Bible speaks into real life situations, shaping character and guiding decisions. It reveals God’s will and forms believers for a life that honors Him.

Let this month renew our commitment to read the Bible regularly. Set aside time each day to listen to God’s Word.

When Scripture becomes part of our daily rhythm, our thinking, attitudes, and actions begin to change.

Second, live out the Bible in daily life.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

God’s Word is meant to guide how we live, not only what we believe. The psalmist describes Scripture as light for the path, offering direction in times of confusion and darkness.

As we celebrate National Bible Month, let us move beyond reading to obedience. Apply God’s Word in your home, workplace, and community.

Let Scripture influence how you speak, decide, forgive, and serve others. The Bible transforms lives when it is obeyed, not only read. | NWI
