Stressing that he cannot choose his opponent, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday that anyone running for governor will not affect or alter his plan to seek another term.
“Anybody can always run for any government position,” Lacson said.
On Wednesday, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) deputy secretary-general for Visayas Jesus Hinlo that he is 99 percent sure that former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca will run for governor of Negros Occidental in the May 2025 elections.
For his part, Lacson said he will present to Negrenses what his administration has done for six years.
“Let the people decide,” he added.
Lacson said that he and his runningmate, Fourth District Board Member Jose Benito Alonso, will file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) on Oct. 3.
The governor added that he invited former Rep. Julio Ledesma IV, who is running for congressman anew in the First District, and the provincial board members to join them.
The Lacson-Alonso tandem is being supported by the Love Negros and United Negros Alliance coalition.
Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer is running for congressman in the Fourth District.
The Commission on Elections will receive the COCs for congressman, governor, vice governor, and members of the Provincial Board at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City on Oct. 1 to 8. | GB
