Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Friday (Sept. 5) expressed concern on the “killing spree” of the New People’s Army (NPA) remnants, who recently claimed responsibility for the death of two civilians in northern Negros.

In separate statements, the NPA’s so-called Roselyn Jean Pelle Command admitted to have liquidated former councilman Pablito Brillantes in Manapla, and Johnny Boy de la Fuente in Toboso on Sept. 3 and 4, respectively.

They alleged that Brillantes and De la Fuente served as military informants.

Lacson said the rebel remnants have been active in targeting “soft targets”.

More than 10 incidents of summary executions have been claimed by the NPA in the towns of Toboso, Calatrava, E.B. Magalona and the cities of Cadiz, Victorias, and Himamaylan since early this year, some of these are being investigated by the Commission on Human Rights.

“I think this is just a way of saying, we’re still around,” Lacson said, but added that the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police are finding ways to stop the senseless killings. | GB
