Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday encouraged candidates of the synchronized barangays and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) to limit their campaign to “verbal tussle”.
While he expects the campaign in the barangays “to be heated”, Lacson said it should not be violent.
The campaign period is set on Oct. 19 to 28.
As of Oct. 5, the Commission on Elections has issued 73 show-cause orders to BSKE candidates in Negros Occidental allegedly for premature campaigning.
“We just have to show the world that here in Negros Occidental, inspite of the campaign period, no untoward violent incident will happen, Lacson said.
“What is important is for the candidates to heed the warning of the Comelec as far as premature campaigning is concerned,” he added.
He also reminded the aspirants to “keep your promise”.
Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria yesterday said that most complaints on premature campaigning were postering, especially in the social media, and activities of different political aggrupations.
The Joint Provincial Peace Security Coordinating Center has identified 51 barangays in Negros Occidental, as election areas of concerns. | GB
