Kirk Vertudazo Popiolek, 23, of Misamis Oriental, was crowned Oct. 14 as MassKareyna 2025 in a night that celebrated inclusivity, beauty, and empowerment at the heart of the MassKara Festival.
Now considered as one of the top LGBTQIA+ pageants in the Philippines, MassKareyna continues to serve as a platform for representation, self-expression, and cultural pride.
Popiolek emerged victorious from a field of 17 queens from across the country, all of whom showcased their individuality, talent, and advocacies. She also received multiple awards, including Best in Evening Gown, Best in Production Number, and Best in MassKara Vlog, featuring Bacolod’s top tourist destinations.
In addition, she took home five corporate awards, P100,000 in cash, and a round-trip flight from Manila to Macau.
Joining Popiolek in the 2025 royal court are ML Tucay as first runner-up, Karen Montecillo – second runner-up, Mikay Bautista – third runner-up), and Georgina Roger Pacilan – fourth runner-up.
Each finalist captivated the audience with their grace, strength, and compelling personal stories, affirming MassKareyna’s role not just as a pageant, but as a movement that amplifies LGBTQIA+ voices.
The event drew star power, with the presence of Miss Bacolod MassKara 2025 Sophia Kaye Zaragoza, Lin-ay sang Negros 2025 Jada Biaxyl Celeste, and Miss Grand International 2020 first runner-up Samantha Bernardo, who all served as part of the judging panel.
Rodney Mitz Ascalon, president of Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc., emphasized the significance of MassKareyna in today’s cultural landscape.
“MassKareyna is more than just a pageant—it is a celebration of identity, resilience, and the courage to be seen,” he said in a press release. “We are proud to provide a stage where every story matters; and where diversity is not just accepted but honored.”
MassKareyna 2025 was a joint project of the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. and the Federation of LGBTQ of Bacolod City, further strengthening the city’s commitment to diversity. ||
