Alert Level 1, or low-level unrest, is still in effect at Mt. Kanlaon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
Phivolcs reported Sunday, June 11, that it has recorded three volcanic quakes at Mount Kanlaon.
Alert Level 1 indicates a low-level unrest of the volcano, it added.
On Saturday, Phivolcs reported that Kanlaon emitted moderate plumes that rose up to 500 meters tall, then drifted northeast.
Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island has been on Alert Level 1 since 2020 and has been producing “low-frequency” volcanic earthquakes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has barred pilots from flying 10,000 feet from the surface of Kanlaon, due to the continued unrest observed in the area that could be hazardous to aircraft.
Phivolcs also advised the public to avoid entering the four kilometer-radius permanent danger zone around Kanlaon, as the possibility of sudden steam-driven, or phreatic explosions, may occur anytime./GB
