Irrigators associations (IA) and farmers from cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental attended the IA Congress and Farmers Forum for the Bago River Irrigation System and Communal Irrigation System, at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center in Bago City Jan. 7.

The event, spearheaded by the National Irrigation Administration Regional Office 6 and the Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office, aimed to establish a unified approach to addressing challenges in the agricultural sector, ensuring food security, and promoting the well-being of farmers and their communities.

Outstanding IAs were also recognized during the activity attended by officers and members of the Federation of Irrigators’ Association Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System Inc., led by its president Pedro Limpangog, Federation of Irrigators’ Associations Communal Irrigation System Negros Occidental Inc., led by its president Joel Mana-ay, and representatives from partner-agencies.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson commended Negrense farmers for their continued productivity and resilience despite the challenges posed by El Niño last year, the Capitol said in a press release.

He emphasized that irrigation systems are lifelines for Negrense farmers in sustaining food security, fostering sustainable growth, and serving as investments for future generations.

The governor also encouraged farmers and relevant government agencies to continue exploring new technologies and adopting climate-resilient irrigation systems. ||
