A police non-commissioned officer who was injured during a buy-bust operation on Sept. 11 in Bacolod City was honored for his bravery by the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region.

PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, regional director of PRO-NIR, awarded the Medalya ng Papuri to PSSg Mark Loui Soriba of Bacolod City Police Office Station 7 yesterday at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Barangay Taculing in Bacolod.

Soriba sustained serious injuries during the buy-bust operation at Pana-ad Access Road in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, when the tricycle they were riding during the police operation was accidentally hit by a black sedan.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property have been filed against the driver of the sedan, who has since posted bail.

“Despite encountering life-threatening circumstances in the course of police operations, the police officer remained steadfast and unwavering in the performance of his duty,” said PLt. Col. Joem Malong, regional police spokesperson.

The operation led to the arrest of a drug suspect identified by police as alias Joefer, and yielded approximately P136,000 worth of suspected shabu. | GB
