Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva assured residents Sept. 23 that the Himoga-an Bridge will undergo much-needed renovation and restoration to ensure both its safety and preservation as an important Sagaynon heritage.
“It will not be destroyed,” Cueva stressed in a statement, adding the bridge will “stand stronger and safer, while still retaining its historic significance.”
It will continue to serve not just as an infrastructure, but as a treasured part of our heritage, he assured his constituents, especially residents of barangays Fabrica and Paraiso.

Cueva said that per the Department of Public Works and Highways Region VI, the structural truss members of the bridge will be integrated with new abutment, pier, and carriageway as part of the bridge component.
“This means that the historic features of the bridge will continue to form part of its structure even after the renovation,” he said.
The DPWH has also recommended that the city government salvage certain original pieces of the bridge for historical preservation and posterity, further ensuring that its legacy will live on for future generations of Sagaynons, the mayor added.
“We recognize the Himogaan Bridge as a vital cultural and historical landmark that connects our communities and symbolizes our shared past. Its preservation is a priority of this administration while addressing safety and functional needs,” Cueva said. ||
