Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is undergoing a three-day self-isolation, after experiencing a sore throat, while spearheading the distribution of relief assistance to victims of Typhoon Odette in southern Negros early this week.

Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, yesterday said they noticed that Lacson was having a hard time during his speeches in Hinobaan and Cauayan.

While he was non-reactive to the antigen test he underwent upon his return to Bacolod City, Diaz said Lacson was still advised by his doctors to have a three-day “health break”.

He was given medication for cough to maintain his immunity and resistance from the virus infection.

Prior to his visits to Hinobaan and Cauayan, where he distributed cash assistance to 1,648 rice farmers, Lacson also attended the 46th Sinulog Festival celebration in Kabankalan City, and gave financial assistance to 1,054 rice farmers in Moises Padilla.

He led the distribution of roofing and kitchen materials, and food packs, to Hinoba-an residents affected by Odette, and inspected the ongoing construction of the new provincial government-owned hospital, also in Hinobaan, Jan. 19.

The provincial government is constructing the Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital in a new site to accommodate more patients and improve public health service.

Lacson was with Board Member Jeffrey Tubola, Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao, Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa, Diaz, and other officials during the inspection.

The governor earlier reminded the public not to treat any fever as a normal case, but take it as a suspected COVID-19 symptom and immediately go on isolation. | GB
