Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has called for more investments in renewable energy (RE) in Negros Occidental to ensure power stability.

The call of Lacson came in the wake of the series of yellow and red alerts from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on possible load dropping and power interruptions.

“This is a warning that we cannot depend on our power generators now, we need more of them,” Lacson said in a press briefing Friday.

Lacson said the shortage of power during the summer season is “normal because there are more people using airconditioning on top of the forced outages.”

Negros Occidental is dubbed as the “center for renewable energy in the Philippines”, producing electricity from sustainable sources, among them solar, geothermal and biomass which relies on cane trash. | GB
