A laborer was arrested by the police on Sunday for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, along the national highway of Barangay 9 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Initial police investigation showed that the 42-year-old suspect, who was riding in a motorcycle driven by his companion, tried to evade the policemen, who were manning a checkpoint.

While they were trying to flee, the motorcycle fell on the road.

When the policemen responded, they found a .357 caliber revolver with six ammunition in the possession of the laborer, whose identity is being withheld by the police.

The arrested suspect is now detained at the custodial facility of the Kabankalan City Police Station. | GB
