A resident of Bacolod City was the first violator of the Commission on Elections gun ban arrested by the police in Negros Occidental on Jan. 12.
Alias “Archie”, 24, of Barangay Mansilingan, was spotted by operatives of Police Station 6 along Luzuriaga Street, Barangay 28 in the city.
They found in his possession an improvised firearm, locally known as “pugakhang”, loaded with a 20-gauge shotgun ammunition.
Gun ban checkpoints would be in place during the election period from Jan. 12 to June 11, in connection with the May 12 national and local elections.
Meanwhile, the police campaign against loose firearms led to the arrest of a suspect in Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Maquiling, Sagay City on Jan. 12.
Alias “Mokmok”, a 62-year-old fish vendor, yielded a caliber .38 revolver with three ammunition. | GB
