Grupo Progreso wants watchers in voter registration

Grupo Progreso has requested the Commission on Elections to allow the presence of its watchers in the ongoing voters’ registration in Bacolod City.

The group, in its letter to the Bacolod Comelec election officer dated Sept. 14 and signed by Atty. Evelio Leonardia as head convenor, said, “Your accommodation of the watchers is a step towards preserving the integrity of the voters’ registration list”.

The mayor of Bacolod cited Comelec Resolution No. 10549, dated July 18, 2019, to support the request for the accommodation of the poll watchers.

The resolution states the rules and regulations “to govern the resumption of the system of continuing registration of voters in connection to the…May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections.”

Section 37 of the resolution stated, “Every registered party and such organizations as may be authorized by the Commission shall be entitled to a watcher during the reception of the applications and in every (Election Registration) Board hearing”.

Leonardia said that Grupo Progreso is an aggrupation of several political parties in Bacolod City, including the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), and Nacionalista Party (NP).

The registration of voters for next year’s elections will end on Sept. 30.-CGC
