A switch of positions between Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya?
Such a question surfaced after Gasataya, who is now on his third and final term as congressman, posted a cryptic statement on his Facebook account on Wednesday (Sept. 25), five days before the start of the filing of certificate of candidacy on Oct. 1.
“The strength of every society rests upon its people. This can be proudly said of our beloved city of Bacolod today as its duly elected leaders are focused on serving its people in unity and with integrity and compassion,” Gasataya said.

He stressed that his slogan “Serbisyong May Puso” is more than just a phrase.
“It is our shared commitment to serve and deliver the services which are responsive to the needs of Bacolodnons,” the lawmaker said.
He added: “Regardless of the challenges we were confronted with, Mayor Albee and Greg Gasataya stood together, worked hand in hand, and remained united in our mission as we forge ahead to elevate the lives of our citizens by prioritizing their needs above everything else”.
The message is accompanied by a photo of both Gasataya and Benitez.
Councilor Al Victor Espino said in an interview that before Benitez, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and some of the councilors went to Italy for the Terra Madre Salone de Gusto 2024, a decision was already made in connection with the May 2025 midterm elections.
Benitez has been tightlipped on his political options for 2025, whether to seek reelection or run for congressman of Bacolod, among others.
An announcement is expected upon his return to Bacolod City on Oct. 2. | GB
