Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Julian Marley will hold a concert in Bacolod on May 24, bringing his signature roots reggae sound for the first time to the highly-urbanized city and the entire Visayas region.

The Julian Marley & The Uprising – Live in Bacolod will be held at Acacia Hotel Convention Hall, where the son of reggae legend Bob Marley is expected to perform his popular songs “Boom Draw”, “Lemme Go”, “Systems”, and “Cooling in Jamaica”, among others.

Joining Marley in this one-night-only event are Filipino reggae acts The Wicked Tarsiers and Tropical Depression, a lineup that celebrates both global and local reggae culture, the organizers said in a press conference at Luk Foo Palace April 22.

More than just a concert, the event is envisioned as a cultural experience – bringing together music, community, and purpose, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Kalipay Foundation and the Centre for Sustainability, the organizers added.

This also marks the first time a member of the Marley family performs in Bacolod and the Visayas, positioning the concert as a major cultural milestone, and signaling a new chapter for Bacolod as a destination for international music and cultural tourism.

Augusto Chavez of Palawan Sound Project, one of the organizers of the historic concert, said “it’s a privilege to bring Julian Marley and The Uprising, with The Wicked Tarsiers and Tropical Depression for the first time together in Bacolod.”

“It’s a big responsibility. We are super happy to be here, and I hope this is going to be the first of many,” said Chavez, who said he’s been in music production for 20 years.
