Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya slammed as “desperate political tactic” an anonymous Facebook, which he said is a “veiled threat” on his life.
In a statement posted on his official page on Saturday, Gasataya said he “takes such actions seriously not only as a public servant, but also as someone who values life and the well-being of his family and loved ones”.
The Facebook post on Friday showed a black and white photo of Gasataya with the graphics “1970-2025” printed on it.
Gasataya, who is now on his last term as congressman, is vying for the mayoral post in the May 12 elections.
“Let me make this clear: threats, intimidation, and fear-mongering have no place in our community, and certainly not in our democracy,” he added.
Gasataya, however, said that “desperate political tactics” will “not distract him from performing his duties with diligence and integrity in serving the City of Bacolod”.
“We will never tolerate violence, whether physical, verbal, or psychological,” the lawmaker said.
He appealed to everyone to “remain vigilant and to speak out against any form of threat or intimidation”.
“Let us not allow these despicable acts and behaviors to disrupt the peace we worked so hard to achieve and maintain,” Gasataya said. | GB
