Four Negros Occ. solons get House Committee chairmanship

Four Negros Occidental lawmakers got committee chairmanships in the House of Representatives for the 20th Congress.

Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez was designated as chairman of the special committee on creative industry and performing arts.

The neophyte congressman was also named as among the assistant majority leaders.

Fourth District Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer is the chairman of the committee on legislative franchises while re-elected Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III retained the chairmanship of the committee on natural resources.

First District Rep. Julio Ledesma IV got the chairmanship of the committee on science and technology.

Benitez, in accepting the responsibility as chairman of the special committee on creative industry and performing arts, said he commits himself to strengthening the laws that will protect the creative industry stakeholders, further energize the culture and creative sector, and safeguard the intellectual and creative rights of creative industry workers.

“We will infuse new energy into this extensive industry, where Filipino creatives are known worldwide, and harness the huge economic potential it offers,” he added.

As assistant majority leader, Benitez said he is working with majority leader Ilocos Norte First District Rep. Sandro Marcos in ensuring the efficient and productive flow of legislative work in Congress. | GB
