The Silay City Police Station is conducting an investigation into the death of former Mayor Carlo Gamban at his residence in Barangay Mambulac on Monday, Dec. 2.
Gamban, 85, who was suffering from a lingering illness, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head, initial investigation showed.
PLt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay City police chief, said that the two house helpers heard a gunshot before the former mayor’s body was found inside his room.
At the scene of the incident, investigators recovered a gun and a slug, which will be subject to ballistic examinations.
The result of the post-mortem examination is expected to be known today, Dec. 3.
Darroca said that they received reports that Gamban was complaining of an ailment he had been suffering for three weeks now.
In a statement, Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego expressed his sympathy to the Gamban family.
Describing Gamban as more than a public servant, Gallego said he was a “beacon of wisdom, humility, and dedication to our community.”
“His leadership left an indelible mark on Silay City, and his selfless service continues to inspire us,” he added.
Gallego said: “On a personal note, I will always cherish his thoughtful advice and unwavering support. He was a mentor to many, including myself, and his guidance will remain a source of strength as we continue to strive for progress in our city.” | GB
