A former barangay watchman was killed while his nephew was injured after four armed men forcibly entered their home in Sitio Peson, Barangay Minautok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Friday, June 5.

One of the assailants fired at the victim identified by the police as alias “Momar,” who was hit in the head and other parts of his body.

The three other men reportedly stood guard outside, serving as lookouts.

The victim died on the spot, the Calatrava police said.

His 22-year-old nephew, alias “Rodel,” survived the attack with a minor bullet wound to his right toe.

In a radio interview, PCapt. Jesus Alba, chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said “Momar” was an active supporter of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

On May 27, four assailants also killed a 37-year-old businessman in Sitio Bebang, Barangay General Luna of the neighboring Toboso.

Police investigation showed the victim was waylaid and shot multiple times by the perpetrators, an attack that was witnessed by his 10-year-old daughter.

Authorities are currently investigating whether the two shooting incidents were perpetrated by the New People’s Army. | GB
