Flooding due to heavy rains triggered by thunderstorms and a shearline on Wednesday, Jan. 8, led to the temporary evacuation of 261 families, composed of 784 persons, in seven barangays of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The affected barangays were Luna, Daga, Caduhaan, Burgos, Sicaba, Cabahug, and Mabini in Cadiz City, while two barangays of Manapla, including Purisima and 1-A, also experienced flooding up to four feet high, according to a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
The flooding, however, subsided at 2 p.m., the report added.
Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said that the majority of the evacuees have already returned to their homes, except for some children from fewer than 10 families staying at the evacuation center in Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City.
However, face-to-face classes, both in private and public schools in Cadiz City, were suspended yesterday and until further notice, to ensure everyone’s safety, as reported by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
Face-to-face classes will temporarily transition to the Alternative Delivery Mode until the suspension is lifted, the council also said. | GB
