Nine of the 31 crew members of FV St. Peter The Fisherman II that sank on Friday, Sept. 24, between the area off Tanguingui Island in Northern Cebu and Gigantes Island in Iloilo are missing, a report from the Phlippine Coast Guard said.
The PSG is still searching for the nine fishermen after the fishing boat, skippered by Frankie Chavez, capsized due to strong winds and big waves.
Twenty-two of the distressed fishermen were rescued by crew members of sister ship, FV Old Man and the Sea, while Coast Guard ships BRP Nueva Viscaya and PCG-manned BFAR vessel, MCS 3010, are still searching for the missing fishermen, as of this time.
Second Mate Pablito Desamparado, one of the 22 survivors, told the Coast Guard that they were on fishing at about 1 a.m. of Sept. 24, when they were hit by strong winds and battered by big waves.
Declared as missing by the PCG were boat captain Frankie Chavez of Toboso, Negros Occidental; sonar operator Norberto Parlotzo of Bantayan Island, Cebu; steersman Renante Forsuelo and Victor Calvo, both of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental; Chief Engineer Herminio Ronamo of Estancia, Iloilo;
