The Bacolod Fireworks Retailers Association (BFRA) has asked the city government to be allowed to start displaying their wares at the Bredco area, behind the Pope John Paul II Tower, by Dec. 1.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod has endorsed the letter-request of BFRA president Amado Castijon III to the City Mayor’s Office for appropriate action, following recommendations from Councilor Psyche Marie Sy, chairperson of the SP Committee on Fire, Natural Disasters, and Calamities.
Sy sought for the passage of a resolution endorsing the BFRA request to the Office of Mayor Alfredo Benitez for the issuance of a special permit, and that the names of all 63 stall members, with corresponding stall numbers, are listed, as requested by the Business Permit and Licensing Office.
Sy said in a committee report that, as per Marivic Canada of the BPLO, there is need for an SP resolution, “inclusive of all the names of the 63 (association) members with corresponding stall numbers, before the issuance of a special mayor’s permit”.
She added that BFRA should also submit a site development plan and comply with the requirements of the Bureau of Fire Protection, secure permission from the landowner authorizing use of the area, as well as secure legal and sufficient electrical installation.
BFRA plans to display and sell firecrackers and pyrotechnics until Dec. 31. | CGC
