A Filipino-Chinese businessman was gunned down by an unidentified assailant in front of his own store across the Central Market on Bonifacio Street, Bacolod City on Tuesday (Sept. 9).

Police identified the victim as Romy Li, 52, who was shot while he was about to open the Bacolod Republic Hardware Inc. minutes before 8 a.m.

Li succumbed to a gunshot wound in the back of his head. He was declared dead on arrival at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital.

The gunman fled on board a sports utility vehicle, the police said.

Mayor Greg Gasataya, who condemned the shooting incident, said “this senseless act of violence has no place in Bacolod City”.

Gasataya said that full investigation is being conducted by the Bacolod City Police Office “with all the resources mobilized to bring those responsible to justice.”

Maintaining that Bacolod City maintains zero tolerance for violence, the mayor said “there shall be no leniency and no refuge for those who seek to disrupt the safety and peace of the city”.

Police investigators are looking into business-related reason as among the motives in the shooting incident. | GB
