Thirty units of 20-footer Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) boats and 132 sets of boat repair materials were turned over to fisherfolk beneficiaries from various local government units of Negros Occidental.
The beneficiaries from the cities of Sipalay, Victorias, Talisay, Bacolod, and San Carlos, and the towns of Binalbagan, E.B. Magalona, Hinoba-an, Cauayan, Hinigaran, and Ilog, received the assistance from Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources officials during the ceremonial turnover held at the Panaad Park in Bacolod City Feb. 22.
The FRP boats are complete with engines and other accessories while the boat repair materials include marine plywood, copper nails, marine epoxy, and paints.
The assistance is part of the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program of the BFAR in Region VI, and the beneficiaries are victims of the recent typhoons that affected the fisherfolk and caused damage to their livelihood.
Lacson thanked the fisherfolk sector for their contribution to the food security in the province, and urged them to prioritize their safety, especially when there are typhoon announcements.
The activity was attended by Marian Jill Abeto of BFAR Negros Occidental and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist staff.
Meanwhile, P11.7 million in financial assistance was released to 38 barangays from the 3rd and 4th districts of Negros Occidental, for their development projects, a Capitol press release said.
Lacson and Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko led the ceremonial distribution of checks at the Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City yesterday.
Among the projects are the rehabilitation of drainage systems, purchase of multi-purpose vehicles, installation of solar lights and CCTVs, construction of canopy and concrete pavement, and construction of a health center. ||
