Family of slain rebel gets gov’t assistance

The family of slain New People’s Army rebel Mario Catacio, alias Malot, received assistance from the local Task Force To End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC) in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Catacio was killed in an encounter with military and police troopers in Barangay Quintin Remo on April 4.

A statement from the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) said that cash assistance, in addition to food packs and free funeral service, was received by Rosita Catacio, mother of Mario, after government troops formally turned over his cadaver to his family at Nalagon Funeral Homes on April 5.

The encounter between remnants of the Central Negros 1 guerrilla unit classified as dismantled by the Philippine Army, and combined forces of the 62IB and 2nd Negros Occidental Police Provincial Mobile Force Company yielded a KG9 sub-machine gun, a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition, two rifle grenades and subversive war materials. | GB
