Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego said on Friday (July 4) a fact-finding committee has been created to establish the facts behind the June 27 vehicular accident in Barangay Guimbala-on, which resulted in the deaths of seven persons and injuries to 17 others.

“Before taking any action, I will wait for the result of the investigation to be conducted by the committee composed of members from different city government offices,” he added.

The seven fatalities were personnel of the city government, who participated in the tree-planting activity in the barangay.

Gallego and Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez said they have extended the necessary assistance to the families of both the victims and the survivors.

Hernane Masa, the driver of the mini-dump truck that figured in the accident, is recuperating at home after he was released from the hospital.

The Land Transportation Office-Western Visayas (LTO-6) has issued a show-cause order against Masa for alleged violation of Sections 18, 32 and 48 of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

In a radio interview, LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan said that Masa was given five days to submit his explanation. | GB
