Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said on Tuesday (July 9) some mayors want him to be the next president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives (ACE), being the most senior mayor in Negros Occidental.

He is now serving his third and last term.

Escalante, the secretary-general of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA), said he has yet to finalize his decision on accepting the endorsement but he is inclined to take on the role.

The 31 city and municipal mayors of Negros Occidental will elect the new set of officers during a meeting in Talisay City on July 11.

Then Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, who is now the third district congressman, is the outgoing president.

Meanwhile, Escalante said that because of the merger of UNegA and Love Negros, they have stopped recruiting new members for their political group.

“It is no longer important to recruit because of the UNegA and Love Negros coalition,” he added.
