The Bacolod City Local Price Coordinating Council (BC-LPCC) must closely monitor the prices of basic commodities and ensure enforcement of the Price Act to prevent unjustifiable price increases, in light of rising fuel price.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod said strict enforcement of the Price Act is necessary to ensure fair prices for basic necessities like food, medicine, and transportation, noting that recent fuel price increases may impact prices of basic goods.
“The city government is committed to protecting consumers from profiteering and hoarding”, Councilor Em Ang said in her resolution approved by the SP March 11, and stressed the need for the BC-LPCC to ensure the strict enforcement of Republic Act 7581, or the Price Act, and prevent unjustifiable increases in the prices of basic necessities.
Mayor Greg Gasataya earlier stressed that the city will not tolerate overpricing and anyone trying to take advantage of the rising fuel prices. “At a time when our people are already facing economic pressures, we stand firm to ensure that Bacolodnons are protected from those who seek to profit from struggle.” | CGC
